The winning composition of the second International Barto Prize will be performed by Tzimon Barto during his concert on March 15, 2008. The concert will be at the Bay State Theatre, 109 North Bay Street, Eustis, at 7:30 PM. There is a reception following the performance at A Third Place, 12 East Magnolia Avenue, Eustis, where you may meet Barto.

The reception after concert is $20 and reservations may be made through the Lake Eustis Institute by phone at 352.357.3995.

Lake Eustis Institute has tripled the number of entrees from 2006 and the quality of the work is very high. The winner is selected from scores submitted from all over the world.

Barto, an international pianist, created the Barto Prize in 2006 as a way of giving back to the central Florida community where his roots lie. Barto will perform the winning piece during his 2008/2009 concert season, beginning September 2008. There will also be a $5,000 monetary prize.

The judges are Tobias Picker, composer, USA, Tzimon Barto, pianist, USA, Wolfgang Rihm, composer, Germany, Bright Cheng, composer, China and USA and Marc-Andre’ Dalbavie, composer, France.

The first Barto Prize was awarded in March 2006 to Claude Baker for his composition FLIGHTS OF PASSAGE: From Silent Sun to Starry Night. Baker said, “It was indeed an honor to have been selected as the first recipient of the international Barto Prize and to have been given an opportunity to work closely with such a superb pianist as Tzimon Barto”.

2006 Barto Prize Winner Claude Baker

Before a sellout crowd, Friday, March 24th, at the historic Bay State Theater in Eustis, Eustis native and international pianist Tzimon Barto presented the first Barto Prize for solo piano composition to Dr. Claude Baker, professor of composition at Indiana University’s School of Music.

Baker’s winning composition, Flights of Passage, was played by Barto in the second half of a brilliant concert that featured works by Haydn, Schumann and Liszt. Barto also played excerpts from his new recording of works by Jean Philippe Rameau; A Basket of Wild Strawberries. The pianist’s virtuosity brought the hometown audience to its feet on several occasions.

The prize winner attended the concert and received a trophy, a check for $5,000 and the promise that Barto will play the composition during his 2006-2007 concert tour.

Saturday, August 25, 2007 - DOLLY AWARDS - A NIGHT OF STARS a 32nd Annual Celebration

BAY STREET PLAYERS ANNOUNCES AWARD RECIPIENTS AT A NIGHT OF STARS – 32ND ANNUAL DOLLY AWARDS, SATURDAY AUGUST 25th

An elegant evening of entertainment and awards celebrated the 32st Season at the State Theatre.

(Eustis, FL)…The 32nd Annual Dolly Awards event, A Night of Stars, marked the culmination of the Bay Street Players season.   The celebration began with an awards show at the State Theatre and continued with desert and a champagne toast, led by City of Eustis Mayor, Jim Rotella, at A Third Place Pub and Café located in historic downtown Eustis.

The Dolly Awards – so named because the first show presented by Bay Street Players was Hello Dolly– enjoyed a new format this year.  Fashioned after classic award ceremonies such as Broadway’s Tony Awards, this black tie requested event was fast paced and fun.  Bay Street Players’ board President, Stephen Toth, Elizabeth Drew Scholl, Executive Director, and David Clevinger, Artistic Director were hosts of the evening which served to celebrate the accomplishments of the most successful season in the organization’s history.

Artistic Director David Clevinger designed  A Night of Stars set for the award presentations and entertainment.  William A. Dumas designed the lighting.  The new format was championed and implemented by board members Jeff Lindberg and Glen Howard.  The entertainment led by Musical Director Timothy D. Turner featured the Dolly Singers--eight performers from the BSP 2006-2007 season-- performing contemporary Broadway musical selections including his original arrangement of Hello Dolly in eight part harmony.

Dolly Award Nominees are selected by a private jury that completes ballots throughout the season.  Bay Street Players is pleased to announce the 2006-2007 Dolly Award recipients as follows:
