Lake NOW presented The Vagina Monologues in partnership with the Bay Street Players at the Historic State Theatre in Eustis, FL on March 15 and 16. The Sunday performance was interpreted in American Sign Language, supervised by Kelly Matamoros

Over $6,000 was raised by Bay Street Players and Lake NOW to benefit The Haven of Lake & Sumter Counties, Inc  which provides comprehensive, unduplicated services to victims ofdomestic violence and sexual violence. 90% of proceeds went to The Haven and 10% went to Lake NOW.

The Vagina Monologues is an award winning play based on VDay Founder/playwright Eve Ensler'sinterviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women's sexuality andstrength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world havetaken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues hasgiven voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.

Bay Street Players board member Nancy Hurlbert says, ”In our continued effort to expand our clientelebase and to support diversity, Bay Street Players was excited when Lake NOW brought the idea of theMonologues to us. March is Women's History Month and what better way to honor and recognize theachievements of women than to speak out about violence against women.”
